Viewing Additional OBDII Data In The Export File?

Post by jmciver »

Maybe I missed this, but is there a way to view additional OBDII data in the export file? I exported one lap's worth of data to Excel (or actually Pages, the Mac version of Excel). Some of the OBDII data was there such as RPM, Throttle and MAF. But what about other stuff like Engine Coolant Temp (ECT), Intake Air Temp, etc? Does HLT even have the ability to record this other OBDII data?

On a side note, it would be nice to be able to overlay some of that data on the video, ECT in particular, for some analysis during the video as well.

HI,

LapTimer currently restricts recording to lapping relevant data only. There are some more items shown in real time, but they are not recorded. For engine diagnostics I'd recommend to go for another tool focussed on this. The reason I keep the number of items recorded small is to allow high update rates too. If you ask a lot from your cars's bus, you get a lot of answers - and the dialog gets longer :-)

Ok, I definitely understand the bandwidth issue. You might want to consider a possible feature that would allow the monitoring of some key PIDs such as ECT or Oil Temp ( and deselect when not needed) since I know those parameters are frequently track oriented. I know that I, and possibly many other users, don't need MAF data, so that could save some bandwidth as well.

I know in my case having just one of those data points would have helped me with some cooling issues I was dealing with at the track.

MAF is used to derive a number of other values, namely fuel consumption, power and torque developed. It is part of the recording - which could indeed be left out to be consistent... Oil temp is requested already and can be displayed in LapTimer, but it is real time only...
