Hi,
I have HLT 20.0.18, Circuit tools Mac latest download v1.2.8.

When I open a vbo file from HLT CT just crashes. I've tried a few things,
1. opening by double clicking vbo file
2. changing EOL chars to windows format.

but no luck.

Anyone else got any ideas

Both the Windows and Mac version of CT are pretty sensible and tend to crash if a vbo file contains inexpected content. You need to contact RL on this. Personally, I had no success with the Mac version either and have used the Windows version using a virtual environment so far.
