Installation of lap timer.

I thought a thread about the mechanics of mounting your phone for use with HLT maybe usefull for noobs and for others regarding mounts, what people use, how good they are, quality of manufacture etc.
As I'm here, I'll start.
I do not use my iPhone for video as on circuit in the UK suction mounts are not allowed, nor is timing.
(I have a lipstick cam on the roll bar which once Dashware get around to being able to use bluescreen for the data, then I will use that to get video overlaid with HLT data.)
To overcome being accused of timing, the iphone is in the glovebox, working by bluetooth to a Dual XGPS150 that is velcro'd to the dash.
I bought a iphone 3 mount from Maplins for the grand sum of £9.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/in-car-iphone-cradle-388695
But I'm not happy with the articulation, cannot point the phone where I want to, (Stuck to windscreen, not dash.)
I have on order a Luxa2 H5 aluminium mount.
Review here:

Once I have it I'll post up some thoughts.
OK, so what are you lot using?

I just purchased Laptimer pro this afternoon. In fact my iphone is only a week old. (I finally dumped the Droid) The phone is fantastic. I already have a mophie and I am planning a windshield mount. I am planning to construct a custom mount with aluminum sticking out on both sides of the phone and attaching it with 2 suction cups. I think this might be a good way to conquer vibrations. Harry -- your video of the ring test or v15 is fantastic I was hypnotized by it. I was wondering where you had the phone mounted? Was it on the passenger side or in the center of the dash. Also was the camera port at the bottom of the phone or at the top?
Thanks

Hi,
The iPhone4S has been mounted using a Luxa2 H5 mount in the center of the windscreen. I needed to let it sit on the dash for lower vibrations. The iPhone was turned to left (counter clockwise), so the camera lens has been in the upper side.

Thanks Harry that's what I thought. I will get started building my bracket. Unfortunately I'm in the Northeast US so no track days or AutoX for a few months. I do plan to get out in the car and do some testing. From my quick first look it appears we can shoot video from the speedometer screen with some basic overlays. Is that true? I also plan to use an empty parking lot nearby to mark some points and test the autocross mode.

I have finished building a mount and thought I would share it here. I drove around on some very bumpy roads (that is almost any road here in New Jersey) and the mount performed flawlessly. I have only had my phone for 2 weeks but was advised by several friends to get a Mophie battery case to extend the usable time on the phone. I have used a holder made by Slip-grip. This is it:
http://www.slipgripcarmounts.com/SlipGr ... 98919.html . I mount it to the windshield of my M3 and where the corner touches the dash I have place a small tab of velcro. The hooks are on the dash and the loops are on the phone case. The phone simply clips in and holds very well. Here is a shot with the phone mounted:
and with the phone removed:
I will post a sample video to Youtube later but I'm sure you can see how stable this system is. I had to reverse the large L arm that attaches to the suction cup. It has a seaated gear on one side to help with adjustment and that can not be used when reversed but it does fit and locks fine.
The holder is available from the company or on Ebay. I bought it on Ebay and the shipping was very fast. they make several models for iphones with other cases such as Otterbox.
Enjoy

Harry, looks like 15.0 is going to be AWESOME! I just bought the app today and can't wait to take it to the track.
As far as mounting, I'll be mounting mine on my headrest using:
amt's mount

and the glif and serif
http://www.studioneat.com/products/glifplus
I've ordered the emprum and plan on mounting it on top of the car with a 30pin dock extension
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005I0 ... 01_details
I may plastidip the emprum to keep rain out of it.
I also have this wide angle lens that I'll experiment with

Interesting to see that Emprum Ultimate + KiwiWifi is already a common buying pattern

Please post a video with HLPTR and this oloclip lens, that's looking pretty interesting.
