Is it possible for HLT android to run in the background with another app running in front?

No, it doesn't. Compared to Android, inactivating apps when sent to background is the most common pattern in iOS.
A difference between LapTimer for Android and iOS is that video recordings are possible while watching a timer view (instead of Video View) - sometimes named "Video background recording". But this is not what you were asking for and probably misleading this this context.

Nope, understood... and video background is coming in v20 right?! Do you know which Android models will support hardware acceleration in LapTimer v20 yet?

Please don't ask before February when the beta starts. ;-)

What I can say already is overlays will mostly not be necessary any more. LapTimer v20 will come with real time overlays. You can watch videos recorded including full overlays instantly. Encoded overlays are necessary for export and external distribution only.
