LapTimer GrandPrix and GoPro Hero 4 Silver IOS Issue

I have and upcoming track day and just got a new GoPro Hero 4 silver to use with the LapTimer. I upgraded with the in app purchase to allow for the multicam set up. I did a trial run last night to see how it all worked. I was able to get the GoPro to start and stop recording with the lap timer but I ran in to an issue when I went to do the overlay. when I went to the lap the iPhone video showed up but the GoPro video did not (the box for the video was there but it said off line) I went to try and download the video through the app and it just said connecting to Hero4 and counted down from 10 and did nothing. the GoPro was connected to my iPhone through Wi-Fi, I tried with Bluetooth and Bluetooth with Wi-Fi, GoPro app open and closed. has any one ran into this issue and if so how did you fix it.
regards,
Kyle

The problem with direct GoPro downloads is a) they are incredible slow and b) the HERO4 in particular tends to power down WiFi without notice. I work with GoPro on an improved communication for the Spring 2016 (v20) release. Till then - especially because it is so slow, I'd recommend to copy the video from the GoPro's SD card to your Android SD card (or iTunes LapTimer File Sharing for iOS). Instructions how to do this can be found in LapTimer's video documentation available from
www.gps-laptimer.de/documentation

Thanks Harry that worked and I am able to see the both videos in the app now. the problem I run into now is when I go to over lay with both videos the app crashes when the overlay gets to approximately 5% (the overlay works perfect when there is only 1 video). any thoughts?

Yes, probably issue #2 listed on
viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1693. Please follow the link for a workaround (disabling reference PiP). A version including a fix is submitted to Apple already.

I am in the same position as kylechive86 above except that I am using an HTC One M8 (Android). I am looking for confirmation that I am using the Hero4 for MultiCam correctly based on the research I have done and this particular post.
The actual recording part appears to be working fine, but when it comes time to overlay, having same issues as above. I had had intermittent success in downloading the video from the Hero4 from the Video List but OverLay usually hangs or fails.
I read the Known Issues and see that I need to use the highest overlay resolution. I will test that.
So, it appears that my steps for overlaying a Hero4 video is:
Once recorded,
because the Hero4 is so slow, it is best to manually copy the video from the Hero4 to the same directory on my phone as where HLT places its local videos.
Then go into Lap List and select the placeholder for the Hero4 video and, in case of it being an Android, click the Video Add icon (camera with a plus sign next to it) and select the video I manually added to HLT. I believe it then asks to confirm that you want to Re-Link.
Then, assuming that my Overlay is set to Highest Quality, Overlay should work?
In the documentation, it showed that the Hero4 supported a bunch of "automatic" features, like Automatic lap / video synch, Automatic transfer to phone, and Automatic lap association. Is this only for iOS or is it something that is coming later?
My last question (today): Is there an option to use ONLY the Hero4 for video during recording. I would think that it would reduce the demand on the phone during recording and the video from my phone looks lousy anyway. OR, is this something you can do at Overlay by removing the Locally Recorded video from the lap?
Thank you for the excellent product! I am just now trying the MultiCam, but before this I have had great success with the app.

Hi,
Mostly correct, the Re-Link button (+ Video) has been replaced by another icon showing a cam plus a shadow cam. The M8 definitively crashes when overlaying in any quality level except the highest. As overlaying is reworked currently (hardware accelerated), I do not plan to further investigate this M8 issue.
The automatic sync feature is in place when transferring footage as described - you do not need to set a sync point / sync lap and video on the time line. The download further automates this but can be used for very small videos only from my point of view.
A mode to record with the external cam only will be supported in v20 too. Planed for March.

Thank you for the quick reply.
While testing last night, I was able to download a small GoPro video from the HLT Video List section and then successfully overlay it with the Lap and the Local video. Yay!
I was also, finally, able to copy the Hero video to the phone and add it to the Master Video placeholder for the Lap. And, yes, successfully overlaid it.
For those of you with a Mac, I learned an important lesson...
You should use the GoPro Studio software (Free) to import your videos so that they are correctly imported as .MP4 format. Otherwise, you will have to use the GoPro SD card directly OR use the Mac Photos app and Export Unmodified Original option. I spent a lot of time trying to get HLT to recognize the GoPro .M4V format - it won't.
Now you can copy it over to your phone's HLT Movies folder for Overlay. Whew!

Hello, how is v20 shaping up? I've been trying to overlay my first attempt at a trackday video with Hero 4 Silver and iPhone 6 and Laptimer GP and not having any luck.
I worked through the guide and managed to work out how to download video from GoPro to phone, but it got stuck at 50% download. Is there any way to reset or start again?
Also, how do you clear videos off your iphone that have been pulled through?
Really struggling with this, hoping v20 will improve things.

The download option depends on the HERO's web server quality - which is not too great from my point of view. When working with bigger videos, I strongly recommend to use the file level transfer described in the docs - much faster and reliable.
Videos downloaded are stored on LapTimer documents area. You can see, select or delete them from Video List in LapTimer.
v20 is scheduled for April.
