Autocross track creation wizard closes before finish line?

I was trying to create a new Autocross course but was having some difficulties. I would go Prepare Race -> Autocross -> Set the Standing Start. Then I would start walking the autocross course, the distance in meters would increment, but before I got to the finish line the autocross wizard popup would be gone and I would be back at the Prepare Race screen. Something was causing the autocross track creation wizard to close and I am not 100% sure why.

I did notice that if I pressed the screen lock button on my phone this would cause the BT signal to the XGPS160 to disconnect, so I was walking around with the screen on. (I had the XGPS160 in my pocket while walking the course). I also notice that if you rotate the phone from portrait to landscape the wizard closes, maybe this was inadvertently happening. Or maybe the phone screen was auto locking? I thought it was possible to lock the phone screen, put the phone in your pocket, walk the course, then take the phone out at the finish line and set the finish point, maybe not?

The autocross course physically takes place on a racetrack that I also have loaded, could POIs or triggers from the racetrack be interfering with the autocross course creation?

Maybe I am misunderstanding the usage here, I found this post and will try walking straight from the start to the finsh next time:

Exactly, the assistant doesn't expect you to walk the course but the way straight from start to finish. This is usually a lot shorter and will be finished before any timeout. Rotation resets the assistant in the Android version, that's actually a bug.

The distance shown is for quarter mile performance testing and always shows the distance to start, not the distance walked.

"start the AX assistant, walk to start, set start, walk some feet, set the stop *anywhere*. Create the AX. Now turn off or sleep your iPhone or whatever and walk to the finish. Pull LapTimer to foreground again, select Analysis -> Realtime -> Map and drag the finish trigger to your current / correct position."

Yes, that's the work around allowing you to use sleep and walk long distances.

Thanks for this thread gentlemen, I have been prevented from using Harry's GP version for two months now, as I fruitlessly tried to mark start and finish for an autocross course in situations where getting from one to the other (walking the course) required 15-20 minutes. The apparent time-out was driving me nuts.

I will try again with this more refined understanding, and say thanks for the software, and perhaps this point could me made easier to find in the documentation?

Tried to use this app today but had the same issue. Is there a technical reason it has to clear at all? It should be no effort to save a number to the phone so if you switch apps or turn it or walk for a while or check your email it stays. Track Addict does this no problem. I would love to use this app but the way it works doesn't fit the way a day at autocross works. I want to be able to create a track, choose to add a start, stop, or waypoint at anytime, and be able to come back to where I left off when I am invariably interrupted (this is mobile after all)...

As mentioned above, you do not need to walk the complete track but go to the finish directly - which should be far faster than the timeout that will close the assistant automatically. In case you want to be completely independent from the timeout and app life cycle, set the start, walk a few meters and set the finish in an arbitrary position - finishing the assistant. Quit the app or do whatever you want when going to finish now. When at the finish, bring up the app again and switch to LapTimer - Analysis - Realtime - Map. Drag the finish trigger you will see to your current position and you are done.
