G-Force circle accuracy & body roll

Post by swbca3691 »

This is a frivolous topic but Ill ask anyway . .

As a test when not driving, if you turn your phone 90 degrees left or right, the G-Force meter will read precisely 1.0 proving the phone's accelerometer is very accurate for that static situation.

When my vehicle is parked on a side-slope that approximates my vehicle's maximum body roll, the G-Force meter is somewhere between .1 and .2 G. So when the G-Force graphic shows 1.1G on a video, is it safe to assume the actual G's was about .8 or .9 because of the effect of body roll on the measurement ?

If that is true, and you are looking for something to do, maximum body roll could be added to the Vehicle description and be a progressive correction factor added to the G-Force graphic :)

Yes, body roll has an effect on measurements as described. I could use downforce measurements to adjust this... Not sure one gets too much noise... I will move this topic to Feature Requests ;-)

Three axis accelerometer support is also important for banked tracks. Of course then you'll probably need to do full sensor fusion including three axis rotation rates as well.
