iOS 9 Testing?

Hey guys! New here, to the app AND to HPDE's. I have my first HPDE next Tuesday and I am very excited!

Ok, enough intro. I came across this application package and immediately was intrigued. I purchased the Grand Prix edition and want to get everything setup. I am currently running the iOS9 Public Beta on my iPhone 6+ and the application in video mode seems to work a little funky. Is this iOS or maybe it's a 6+ thing? Anyone testing iOS9 and LapTimer?

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Hi,

Not tested with iOS9 beta yet. I have seen several issues in early betas but this is mostly due to missing downward compatibility in early betas. That's the reason I jump in late usually.

Actually it would be helpful to understand what "a little funky" means.

Nick,

Have you reported this to Apple? I don't think Harry should be the one to go to here for a beta OS version problem.

Harry, I understand completely. If anything at all, this may help when it comes time to start getting ready for the iOS9 update. I just attempted again several times without an issues. Here's a screen shot of what it looked like when I entered video mode:

That's not exactly how it beta testing works. If there is an issue with an application, it's up to the developer to ensure it works with the new operating system. Harry chooses to do this later in the beta versions, which makes a lot of sense. Many applications have to be tweaked each time Apple releases a new update.

Did a quick check for iOS9. Most view (including View View) initialisations do not work correctly currently. I have added a workaround for the next update not knowing if Apple will return to the iOS7/8 behaviour in the final beta. Now, that Apple revealed they will present the iPhone6S on the 9th of September, I assume iOS9 will get available mid of September like iOS8 did.

Thank you for confirming that Harry and I look forward to testing it out for you when your next release deploys. Mid septemper is a very good assumption. Apple likes to keep a consistent schedule it seems.

That's not exactly how it beta testing works.
It should be. It certainly is for other forms of software like games. If the OS is still a moving target, why should a developer waste energy on trying to hit it?

I keep hearing how Apple is better than Microsoft and I keep seeing examples like this that demonstrate that it's not.

You're missing the point, by a long shot. It's not what this post is in regards to so we don't need to go any further. The question has been answered by Harry :)

I have the released version of iOS 9 on my phone (it's available to developers) and I've noticed that the problem with the video screen has gone away. I'm using version v19.0.16 of LapTimer.

Great, that's good. I could reproduce it for the last beta and added a workaround too to 19.0.20. Not sure it will get available ahead of the 16th (general iOS9 availability), Apple offered a pretty short window for submitting iOS built apps ahead of the start... But if they have added a workaround themselves, we are fine anyway. :-)
