Continous recording / maximum time/size?

Hi there

I've got your professional APP and it is very good.

But I like the ability to be able to just record an entire session on a trackday so say 20-30 mins of recording.

I've tried this, I basically just press video, start recording and then press stop recording 20 mins or so later.

What happens next is annoying, I get the message transferring to phones camera roll area as normally and after a few minutes the application just quits. :(

Upon re-loading the application there is no video within the lap info. :(

Yet the video is stored in my camera roll memory, so not all loss but I can't apply an overlay.

Is there a fix or way around for this please?

The easiest solution will be just the ability to start / stop recording easier with say upto a 60 minute limit.

Any chance of say just a start / stop record function where it does not collect lap data / times etc as I just want to record my trackdays and apply the overlay so I have G-Force, speed, throttle, revs, gear etc as I have KiWi WiFi. :)
As I can time my own laptimes from watching the video playback, so to me its more important to have reliable video recording ability and been able to apply the overlay. :)

Hi Gibbo,

There is a topic on this / related topic available here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=84

Reading through your approach it seems you are kind of working around LapTimer's normal operation. This is having LapTimer trigger starts and stops, and aligning videos in parallel. Take all of this modulo the discussion above, which will most probably allow having video ahead and after start and stop respectively, and videos every lap (instead of every other).

On your problem with the large video: LapTimer is currently designed to transfer one lap's video at a time. The larger the videos, the higher is the risk the transfer process will be disturbed. Often the video lands in Photo app nevertheless. Crashing almost always means memory problems. In case your video is in the Photo lib, navigate from Lap List to the lap recorded, press Edit, and press the Add Video row. This will allow you to assign the video again.

Hi Harry

The add video has worked and now its adding overlay, thanks for that. :)

I shall reply in the other thread as it would be great to just have a continous record until there is not enough memory left to do an overlay as well or until the user manually stops recording.

P.S. If I press record in the pits, does this bypass automatic recording?

So can I just press record from the pits, go out do 10 laps, come back into pits and press stop recording?

Would this result in one continous video? Or could I load the track and maybe disable the start/stop/ref points so it just carries on with continous recording?

If the above is possible, will overlay still work with OBD/GPS etc? As for laptimes that does not matter I can just watch the videos back at home and time them myself. :)

Hi,

Automatic timing will disrupt your manual operation. The way to work around this is to remove the triggers / POIs. To do this, simply purge the POI Set. This will not delete your recordings, just the triggers. The approach you name produces both a continuos video AND continuous data recording / no break down in laps.
