OBDLink MX WIFI + GoPro Hero 3+

Help on issues you run into with LapTimer; in case you have a question on how to use LapTimer, use the forum "Using LapTimer" instead

OBDLink MX WIFI + GoPro Hero 3+

Post by Morganism »

Hi all

New user on this forum so firstly thank you Harry for an excellent app and to all other contributers for the wealth of knowledge on here.
I have been using the HLT app for a year now, my first year racing in the UK Morgan Challenge Race Series. Car 67 if any of you know the mark..

Last year I used the app to record lap times and little else. This year (and having upgraded my phone) I'm planning.....

Front facing camera (Hero 3+) controlled by HLT app,
Rear facing camera utilising an iphone 5 connected using the multicam app,
& an iphone 6 as the master device running HLT.

I have also purchased an OBDLink MX Wifi to collect OBD/CAN data.

I have succesfully managed to get all video devices to start filming simultaneously and plan to use Racerender to put it all together with the CSV files. The missing link is working out the WIFI configuration to add the ODB unit. From what i've read it seems I need to connect the OBDLink to the GoPro but i'm having difficulty finding instructions to do so...

So the question is, can anyone point me to a guide (that i've probably missed on this forum!) or give some written instructions?

Thanks is advance

Regards

Dominic

Hi,

The infrastructure mode planned for the OBDLink MX WiFi still does not work reliably. LapTimer is prepared for this mode (it needs to find the adapter in GoPro's network), but configuration is cumbersome and doesn't work reliably.

So in case you want to use LapTimer's can remote controlling of HEROs, I'd recommend to exchange the MX by a GoPoint BT1. It is slower but works in your configuration.

Is there any update/suggestion on this issue? I would like to use both GoPro and a higher speed ODB connector. Thanks!
