Scantool MX WiFi & GoPro Control

I'm excited to receive my MX WiFi this Friday and test it at the track with HLT this weekend. I'm curious if I can still control my GoPro simultaneously? If not, this would be a great feature to add if it's even possible with the iPhone.
Thanks!

Most accessories (including the HEROs) claim their own network. As a smartphone has one WiFi card only, you cannot connect to more than one of these accessories. The OBDLink MX WiFi is different in that it is able to connect to existing networks (please search here on the forum, there are several discussions on this). However, the current firmware version comes with too many flaws to be usable. LapTimer is prepared for this scenario already, I'm looking forward to a possible October firmware update...
Maybe GoPro will change their Wifi implementation too in the future, let's see what happens.
I have written an in-depth article on all types of smartphone / accessory connections, it is available here:

Thanks, I appreciate the quick feedback and work in this area. Looking forward to the MX wifi firmware update.
It will still be interesting to test out the MX wifi for the first time this weekend, I'm looking to monitor coolant and possibly oil temps on my Audi. I can just manually control my GoPro for now if that is needed until MX fixes their firmware.

Yes, control it manually and add the video to the lap later. Check the video documentation / last section available directly from

I'm planning to test out the MX WiFi in infrastructure mode and see if I can get it in a use-able state. First, I'll connect the MX WiFi to my iPhone with the iPhone set up as an access point and see if I can get that working. If I am successful there I'll move on to trying to connect both devices to the GoPro. Any hints on where I might find trouble?
I used the MX WiFi at a 2-day track weekend two weeks ago and it performed great. I only had issues with it in one session where the MX WiFi must have power cycled. I'm not sure the cause but it did reconnect with HLT at some point later in the session w/o any intervention on my part.

Hi,
I'm in intensive discussions on infrastructure mode with Scantool/OBDSolutions currently. Although it is fully supported by LapTimer and worked for me at some time during beta, it does not work reliable currently.
I'm told both this issue and connection stability in general will be addressed in a firmware update later this month. I'd suggest to operate the GoPro manually till then.

A few sample videos of HLT overlays using MX WiFi OBD data and GoPro Hero 3+ footage.
I performed manual GoPro synching and downconverted the video from 1080p60 to 1080p30 using Handbrake (so the video would play and overlay properly on my iPhone 5).
First PR of the weekend (surpassing the best I achieved in my C2S):
