Tablet Mounting Orientation (Android)

HI ALL !
First post for me... will be using HTL Rookie (at least to start with). I plan to mount a 10 inch Android Samsung tablet on a homemade mount yet to be designed about a foot or so under the glass of the rear hatchback of an RX-7. I use separate video at the moment, will think about integrating into HLT if/when I upgrade and will change mounting scheme then as required.
Can I mount the tablet "flat" (screen up), or is it necessary to have it "on edge" like if you were holding it to take a photo ? Does this matter to the internal sensors ? Should it be a totally rigid mount or is some cushioning OK ? I run on a track that has uncountable asphalt patches so is not a really smooth ride.
