trouble creating new track configuration

Hello- I'm having trouble creating a new configuration of an existing custom track. Both courses have a separate start/finish line. I'd like one configuration that runs forward, and one configuration that runs backward. When I go to the finish line of one course and try to create a new start line for the second course at the same point, the POI creation tool is giving me the error "No new Point of Interest created! Laptimer detected a POI named 'XXX' nearby." All start/finish lines are directional and 180 degrees opposite from each other so it shouldn't be a problem as far as duplicate POI detection.
I've also tried working around this problem by only loading one of the two configurations at a time. However I am unable to restore the first configuration using the "certify track" to myself trick. When I try to open the .hpoiz file with HLT, the HLT app starts but nothing else happens. No new POI's or tracks are loaded. Any tips?
Maybe I should stick this in the feature request section instead, but a "Duplicate Track for Editing" feature in the 'manage tracks' page would be very helpful instead of all this fussing around. Also it would be helpful if I could keep a library of inactive tracks to choose from, since most of mine will be custom made and therefore not available for loading through the normal track list.
I'm using the latest Rookie edition on a Motorola MotoX (running Android 4.4 aka Kitkat). Thanks in advance for any help!
