Export to Dropbox makes iPhone go to sleep

Post by ambordokan »

Hi Harry,

I'm having this issue: trying to backup my whole database (100 laps, ~80k GPS positions), the app shows "... and dropping into Dropbox". While it's uploading, I have to constantly tap the screen to prevent the iPhone to go to sleep. If it sleeps, the upload fails.

I wonder if is there something simple to do about that (either a feature request of keeping the app active while uploading to Dropbox or a workaround of some sort).

Thanks!
Andre

Try it with a better Internet connection :-) 80k GPS positions are not a lot of space and should be stored in less than a minute. As an alternative, send the export by Mail - that's a background process. The odd thing about the Dropbox dropping is it seems to come back after it has uploaded the data to the cloud. From my loin of view this should be done in background too. Maybe I'm doing something wrong... That's by the way the reason I do not support video transfer to Dropbox...

Settings/General/Auto-Lock. Available options are 1,2,3,4,5 Minutes, Never.

I use Never because I find Auto-Lock extremely annoying. But then I'm not using the device as a phone, so when I'm using it, it's plugged in to a power source and I don't have to worry about the battery drain.

Yes, that's a workaround. It just makes me feel quite unsafe if I forget about setting it on again, but I can try that next time I'm backing files up. Thanks.
