LapTimer with original GoPro HD Hero?

Hi all, I've been researching HLT and it looks awesome. However, I have the original GoPro HD Hero, which lacks WiFi and all the new fancy features found on the Hero 3 series. If I record video manually on the GoPro, can I later sync it with HLT iPhone video and/or data and have the video overlay done? How difficult is this?
The other question: How much storage space should I expect to need for a full track day on my iPhone? Can HLT record for full 30-min segments? The track day would likely be 5 30 minute sessions. I have a 16GB iPhone 5, and I imagine that the 4-5GB I might be able to keep free before I start wouldn't be enough for all the videos.
If the GoPro data import is possible, does the phone need to be able to store all the GoPro clips plus its own video internally to merge? Or is some sort of streaming possible?
I'm afraid that with the paltry storage space on my phone that HLT may not work out for me. Perhaps I could use the overlay data exported as CSV and use a desktop editing program with just purely GoPro footage.
Thanks in advance!
