Issues with Android Video Recording
Issues with Android Video Recording
Hi,
Shortly after releasing LapTimer Petrolhead for Android, I received some feedback on garbled footage shown and stored, as well as unexpected interruptions of video recording. So far, this issue appears for specific device / OS combinations. This thread's purpose is to collect these situations and derive a solution.
Case #1: Samsung Galaxy SIII (AT&T) running Android 4.3, both the video preview and the video stored get garbled once recording starts. The preview is fine up to the point in time recording is triggered. Tested for both HD and FullHD. Next step is testing in SD to check if this is resolution dependent.
Case #2: Samsung Galaxy Note 3. "Had to load it 3 times to recognize Petrol Head. Couple of issues: (1) whenever I enable the video it says it is ready but when a trigger happens and the timer starts, 4-8 seconds into the lap it fails saying "Saving Video failed. Either operation has been interrupted, or memory is low". I have 13GB free and didn't touch the device."
On case you run into similar problems, please report. I will try to add fixes / workarounds as soon as possible.

Re: Issues with Android Video Recording
I experience both of these issues with an Android 4.3 (AT&T) on Samsung Galaxy S3.
Case #1: After 18.02 can now "Record now" in FULL HD and HD and the video records without failing and the resulting stored video looks good also. To me this issue seems to be rectified.
Case #2: This still happens at ALL resolutions. Set to "record auto", wait for trigger or manual start and as stated within 4 or 5 seconds you'll get the message about the recording being interrupted.
At this point main issue with this configuration seems to be "background video recording".
I discovered another issue but will place into another thread.
I'm sure android feels like a handful at this point. good luck.

Happy to hear 18.0.2 fixed #1... I will check if I can reproduce #2 somehow tomorrow...

Harry
sent you a tracefile of issue #2 occurring on my device, hopefully something from that.
Re: Issues with Android Video Recording
It seems there are several smartphones and OS version not supporting the current approach of background recording. I have just uploaded a new version (18.0.4) which will disable background recording temporarily. Besides this restriction, it includes several other bug fixes... As I have found a solution already, you can expect 18.0.5 - enabling this feature again - shortly.

Sounds like great news. Good job in finding the resolution so quickly.

Re: Issues with Android Video Recording
I'm the one that reported #2 in the first post on my Galaxy Note 3. Since video is now disabled, I can't test it further. I have an event at Summit Point Shenadoah Circuit next Saturday. I know you are probably slammed with this new release, but any chance this will be fixed by then?
Thanks
Thanks

It will require some more time but there is a chance it is available in a week...bob_mitchell99 wrote:I'm the one that reported #2 in the first post on my Galaxy Note 3. Re: Issues with Android Video Recording
I just bought Android Petrolhead for my track event this Saturday. Please release the fix soon.
Thanks in advanced.

Re: Issues with Android Video Recording
In case it is not available this weekend, please just use the Video View instead of video background recording.
