Using as a dash

I'd like to accomplish the following - use my iPhone with Harry's lap timer as a live display lap times and comparison to the reference lap, and use either iPod or GoPro Hero 2 with wifi for recording the main video (because the iPhone used for timer display will be not well positioned for recording video).
So, just to clarify - two devices, one in front of me with camera blocked (or it can record me on a front-facing camera), another in the position that's great for main video recording and recording the main track video. As a result, I'd like to get 1) accurate live lap timing display on the device in front of me; 2) data-overlayed video from the other device. Is it possible to get this working? Would it be easier to accomplish with gopro or ipod? Also, my iPhone has much less free memory than Ipod or gopro, and I'd rather not buy another phone. My ODB adapter is connected to iphone via Wifi, so would I need a bluetooth ODB if I use gopro with wifi?
I read the section on video, but could not figure that out. Appreciate any help.
