Is there anything in the new iPhone 5S hardware that could be of benefit to Lap Timer?

In the beginning it will be higher speed and most probably better battery time. Over time, LapTimer will most probably use additional features from the new M7 motion chip.

And hopefully 64-bit processing down the line, too.

The 5S offers a 34 Hz on the accelerometer where as the predecessor iPhones maxed out at about 29 Hz. Only thing that comes to mind is more accurate data logging?

Take a look at the expert settings, there you can change the update rate of the accelerometer and push it up to 100Hz. Don't know where the hardware limitations are though.
