For the first time today I was using my iPhone 4s and a 3d generation iPad. The iPad doesn't have built in GPS, so it was connected to an XPS150. Both devices had the same tracks.

The iPhone recognized the tracks (responding to triggers and alerts), but I could not get the iPad to do so. The iPad was connected to the XPS150 and the satellite view confirmed the connection. The Speedo view showed the current speed.

This may be some sort of iPad configuration issue as I noticed that the Apple Maps app didn't function normally (it showed the map and location correctly, but did not give complete routing instructions). I tried rebooting the iPad, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps this is related to the above, but on the iPad the Speedo view worked okay for a while, but then the Avg Speed and Max speed would not update. If I reset either one, they would just show n/a. Current speed continued to be correct. If I restarted HLT, the Speedo view would be correct for a while, but then the same issues would return.

Unfortunately, there's a bug in the current version of iOS which is affecting Bluetooth-connected GPS accessories (from any manufacturer). The symptom is that apps don't display GPS information even though the GPS appears to be paired and connected properly to the iOS device. Confusingly, if you open the Dual GPS Status Tool, the GPS looks like it is working properly – it shows a position, an altitude, and lots of satellites in view. It's a frustrating problem which is affecting a lot of people.

Unfortunately, there isn't fix available from Apple yet, but there are some things which you can do if you are experiencing the problem. Additionally, Dual has been working with app companies including ForeFlight and WingX to provide a workaround.

Keep your fingers cross for iOS7...

After searching the web I applied these suggestions and got the iPad to work with the XPS150 reliably. Not sure each of these steps is necessary, but I didn't want to fiddle with it after I got it working.

1. In Privacy | Location Services turn off all other apps other than HLT.
2. Turn off Location Services
3. Power down iPad
4. Power up iPad
5. Turn on Location Services
6. Start HLT
