Hi there. I am using HLT Pro on an iPod touch with a Bad Elf GPS connected to the 30 pin connector on the iPod Touch.. I was tested the set up in my neighborhood, and was able to record GPS and video using the iPod Touch and a GoPro successfully. I took this set up to Summit Point race track, and when I try to Start recording my lap, I see "No Fix" next to the GPS signal icon. What does this mean, and how do I fix it?

As a side note, this location does not have good Wifi signal. I was able to find a location outside the track where I could get Wifi. I connected to that WiFi and was able to gt GPS signal. But when I tested in my neighborhood, I did not have any Wifi signal either.

Do you need to have Wifi connected to get the initial lock on GPS? Once you get the lock, can you disconnect the Wifi connection? I am hoping to get some data logging done this Sunday or Monday (EST), so any help would be appreciated.

No Fix means LapTimer does not receive a valid GPS position currently. Using an iPod touch in wifi range will generate an approximation for the current position, named triangulation. This position cannot be used by LapTimer as they are not accurate at all. The BadElf adds GPS positions for the iPod touch, wifi is not used in this situation, so both are not related. So if you get NoFix with a Bad Elf connected, the Bad Elf does not provide a GPS position (or the connection is not working at all). I'd suggest to unplug and plug in the dongle again to force a reset. Wait up to a minute afterwards, the initial lock required some time.

Thanks for the quick reply. I uninstalled then reinstalled HLT, and will try it again today. Thank you for clearing up the idea that the Wifi and Bad Elf are not related.

iOS 6.1.3 has problems with external GPS devices. It will lose contact with the device. If you get the No Fix message, try going into Settings/Privacy menu and turn off Location Services. Then reboot the iPod Touch. Turn on Location Services and try again. Or don't turn on Location Services and try again. The problem seems to be with the iapd daemon that controls communication with the 30 pin plug among other things. You might look in the crash list and see if you have a problem with the iapd daemon (Settings/General/About/Diagnostics & Usage/Diagnostic & Usage Data. If you see any entries starting with iapd, that's the problem.
