New guy, can't seem to get it working

Post by davidreaper_99 »

So I bought Harry's Lap timer for my iPhone 4 and can't quite seem to get it to work.
I've set about 9 POIs and no matter how many times I drive past them it never seems to trigger and start recording. I've also payed for the speedometer so I could set my speedohealer but that never wants to work either?

These are street POIs, I have yet to try it on a track day, the first track day for me is March in Barber. For now I'm just trying to get used to it on the streets so when I do get to the track I'm not having these problems.

It is mounted on my to triple tree with the heavy duty velcro and has a yellow to occasionally green signal.

Could anyone help me out?

Hi,

As your trigger configuration is not transparent to me, just some thoughts: you write POIs, I assume you have added stop/go triggers? Please test with one trigger only, more than one trigger in a place will disturb LT's detection mechanism ; you need to pass the triggers with reasonable speed to let them 'fire'; which iPhone do you use, you should have your iPhone's GPS quality in green when operated outside (i.e. not in a car)

On the speedo view: once you add this feature, you will get an additional view (initially hidden behind 'More'). Please check this again.

Well its not multiple POIs in the same area, all set to stop/go. For instance one was on my street in front of the house. Another was a twisty road in town and so on. I would set them and pass them around 10-20 mph and no response.

The speedo I know where its at and I can get to the screen to view it. Does it need to pass a trigger to respond or should it work wherever you have a signal? Because I set it and riding down the road it just sat there at 0 mph.

Also occasionally it has a little yellow pause icon at the top is that a bad signal or what?

LapTimer will not trigger below 5km/h, but you should be above this level. Both the GPS and the Speedo view show speeds as they are measured - independent of timing or not. Even when walking around, you should see the speed. The pause button means GPS quality is too bad to let LapTimer start. This should not happen. Can you please add information which iPhone generation you use?

I've got an iPhone 4 running 5.0.1 (yes it's jailbroken not for piracy though for the 3rd party mods)

AT&T is my carrier and it is in a lifeproof case if that is needed to know

In going to walk around the building and see if it does anything to the speedo

An iPhone4 / iOS5 should be fine and showing good accuracy outside (15/16 feet). What kind of life proof case do you use?

The one that completely encases the phone. Walking around the hanger and flight line I managed to get some response

Well, that looks o.k. It is a bit of trial an error, I know - but I'd suggest the following steps to "debug" the situation:

Check operation without case:
  • Make sure you have green bars displayed and a turning radar symbol.
  • Set a trigger some 200ft ahead.
  • Drive or run towards the trigger and cross it be another 200ft (so overall 400ft driving / running)
  • Once you stop, you should see a red dot instead of the radar symbol, change to any timer view and make sure a lap is timed
  • Cancel timing using the respective button
In case this works, but does not trigger when driving with the iPhone in the case:
  • Position yourself 200ft ahead of the trigger again, mount the iPhone as usual.
  • Change to Classic view.
  • Press the 'Start' button.
  • Drive across the line and stop again.
  • Press the 'Stop' button and change to Lap List.
  • Select the recording stored and export the plot to KML.
  • Send that KML file to me.
There is any problem with your configuration. Using the steps above, we will be able to isolate the problem.

Well I left work and headed to a small road. Set a trigger, this time drove past it in my car at about 15 mph, and as you said it turned to that red dot and started recording. My only problem now is the kml file isn't working with Dashware.
