Motorbike feature request

Hi Harry! I just purchased LapTimer Pro, and I think it's the best application ever for timing and racing in general.

I am wondering if it´s possible to configure the advanced settings for a better use for motorbike riding. In particular, it would be usefull to lock the screen such that I can put the iphone inside my leather suit without pressing accidentally any button (or enable the recording in the background mode). Currently, If I lock the screen by pressing the sleep button after a while the HLT stop recording :(.

Also another interesting feauture is to add the lean angle recording (introduced by pirelli in their diablo super biker app).

This two features would make this application the reference app also for the motorsport racing. Is this possible ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

The first item is difficult. That thing changed in iOS5 or so, till then you could press the sleep button and still have LapTimer running. For the current iOS, it seems to suspend the app. Please note that wearing the iPhone in your leather is not recommended due to the reduced GPS reception. I'd suggest to add a mount plus a secure case to not break the iPhone.

The second is on the list for v18.

Hi Harry, thanks for your quick reply.
Concerning the poor GPS reception, I solved it by using a Bluetooth dongle mounted on the tank of the motorbike:). I also have a Bluetooth headset in my helmet which update me on some POI in the track (I have seen you are going to introduce a similar feature in the next version ? :) ).

Looking forward to see the new lean angle feature in version v1.8

Hi Harry, I discovered that motionX GPS can still record GPS data in background mode (I use iOS 5.1.1). Not sure how they are doing it

thanks again,

Yes, that's no magic and uses iOS's background processing for GPS position changes. As LapTimer is a magnitude more complex in what it does compared to MotionX (Acceleration e.g. cannot be processed in background) - raising several issues - I do not consider this approach currently. I'd need to reduce functionality while running in background a lot. Actually this would increase the app's complexity (different behavior in fore- and background) and make it difficult for the user to understand.
