Re: Beginner's questions
Well, I'm at the stage where I want to review my last session (the first one I ran with Laptimer running), and as usual, I'm totally lost and confused. I've read through the Train the Trainer document, but didn't find it to be of much help. I assume to analyze my session, I need to select Analysis from the main screen. Next, I select Lap List, which does indeed bring up a list of the 22 laps I ran durng my session. But the information I see when I select each lap is extremely limited - all that comes up is a crude drawing of the track, broken into three sectors, an acknowledgement that the GPS sensor used was an external one operating at 10.0 Hz (confirming the use of my XGPS160), a statment of my best lap time, four split times (which is confusing, because the aforementioned diagram only showed three sectors), my average speed for the lap, and my max speed. That's it. Where are all the rich graphics showing the speed through each corner and each straight, the video of my progress around the track as it records these speeds, the G-G charts, and all the other great content I've seen on videos from people using HLT? Please don't tell my I have to export the data to a desktop to access this content.
Also, the times and speeds don't seem right. The data only shows a few seconds difference between my warm-up and cool-down laps, and the other laps, where I was driving about as fast as I'm capable keeping a modified 996 at bay in my 968 - I expected at least 10 seconds difference, especially between the very liesurely cool-down lap, and the manic laps in between. Also, there are huge differences in my max speed between laps where my times were within a few tenths of each other. This is very hard to believe on the very technical track I did this session on, where there just isn't the opportunity for a lot of variance in max speed for someone who knows the track as well as I do.
Obviously, I'm seriously missing the boat here. What do I have to do to get the content I was expecting, and have seen demonstrated by others using this same app? My vision is to run a session (or better yet, let a professional run a few laps in my car first), then play back a few of the interesting-looking laps on the ipad mini on which I'm running Laptimer, to see where I have room to improve, then do another session, repeating as many times as I have time. This would be an extremely valuable tool for improving my driving, but I'm miles away from this capability at this point - surely this is possible, right? What am I missing? Again, sorry for all the novice questions, but I have to believe I'm not the only one as frustrated as I am at this moment. Thanks.

Beginner questions re overlay resolution low
I have given up on Andriod Trackmaster and your app looks like it works much better. Thanks for all your effort.
Background:
Using iphone5s at iOS 9. GoPro Hero3 white latest firmware.
I was not using cloud, I transferred the GoPro video via the SD card to PC to iphone and then linked it to the laps.
1.
New Grand Prix user having overlay resolution question on how to get this higher.
The final video is very low res at 568x320 30fps
Master from iphone is 1280x720 and 30fps
Gopro is 1080x1920 at 24fps.
What setting or process is required to get max resolution on the overlay video with GoPro pic in pic?
If I dont use GoPro at all and overlay with iCar ODB II data I get the correct 1280x720.
2. Yes I do have intermittent problem with the change to iOS 9 reported in other threads (white video screen shifted vertically when I turn on the setting Discover MultiCAM on. Fail seem related to portrait vs landscape position during bring up.
Hope this gets fixed soon or I find the workaround. Something I do works now and then. Any hints yet?
3. I found that I can turn GoPro wifi off I can use my iCar ODB II which is wifi only and off course get a nice overlay. So I assume I have to buy a new ODB II adaptor that will work on BlueTooth to run GoPro and ODB II at the same time. Correct? or is there another way to not have to buy a new iCar interface if a Bluetooth one exists.
I guess I could use GoPro Stand alone and try to post process it outside of Laptimer. Painful.
4. From SimRacing I find its nice to overlay the brake pressure curve vs time with the throttle pressure (Motec user). I see your charts of linear acc (approx to % braking pressure and the throttle % but the throttle is 4 screen swipes away and you really can not overlay at the track and I dont want to wait for export PC analysis at a later time. Suggestions?
The goal is to look at the brake pressure taper/trail brake, measure coast time to the point that see the roll on of the throttle and then it gets to 100%. Trying to see the the timing between the 2 values as improvements are made. I have used the long press to get the cursor that shows the chart value.
thanks for any suggestions

Re: Beginner's questions
1. The output video size is exactly the size of the master video feed in. In case you get something different than expected, please make sure the master video is really coming at the resolution expected. Please use standard sizes (720 and 1080 height) only.
2. Yes, I will send updates regularly, but Apple's review time is beyond 1 week currently.
3. You can't connect to two WiFis at a time. So either get a BT OBD or operate the HERO manually (no WiFi).
4. I plan to add coast time analysis to v20.

Re: Beginner's questions
I double check the sized and Standard master input for overlay was 720x1080. Listed sizes in windows and attached. I think this was Post iSO 9 update.Harry wrote:1. I have not tried your latest app version installed yesterday.

Re: Beginner's questions
I found the same issue with the latest version but I also found the the lower resolution happens when MultiCamPreset is set to none.rjmalm wrote:I double check the sized and Standard master input for overlay was 720x1080. If I change this to Single Density (Pic in Pic) then I get 720x1280 like your specificied in your answer.
Re: Beginner's questions
The change introduced in v19 is the resolution of videos recorded using externals cams is adjusted before starting the recording. If you set Master, LapTimer will set the GoPro to record a FullHD video. When selecting PiP, a HD video is recorded (actually a SD would be enough). When selecting None, the current resolution setting the HERO or Sony has set is not adjusted.

Re: Beginner's questions
I'm almost sure you are overlaying the wrong original video. Overlaying is really "reading frames from original file, add overlay, write frames to new file". There is no change in frame sizes or video format. Maybe you have grabbed the small streaming video GoPros store in addition to the full size video? I have overlaid a FullHD video (even using iOS9) with the latest version and it is coming out at FullHD. And there have been no changes in this area for month.rjmalm wrote:I double check the sized and Standard master input for overlay was 720x1080. Listed sizes in windows and attached. Re: Beginner's questions
Bump - could someone please take a look at my post from 9/21 at 7:24 PM at the top of page 3 of this thread? As it says in that post, I seem to be completely missing the boat somehow, because I'm not finding any of the features I had expected to analyze my session - just a bunch of very rudimentary data I could have gotten using a stop watch. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong - the only thing I can think of is that I had the Video screen selected when I ran my session, instead of Timer, but I find it hard to imagine how the selection of the active screen during the session can have such a dramatic effect on the availability of features. Thanks.
Re: Beginner's questions
It makes probably sense to post a snapshot of a lap's details to better understand the data quality. Please check slide 6 from http://www.gps-laptimer.com/ScreenFlow.pdf on the entry point to Data Recordings. You actually need to select the "crude drawing of the track" (Preview).Cloud9...68 wrote:Bump - could someone please take a look at my post from 9/21 at 7:24 PM at the top of page 3 of this thread? Re: Beginner's questions
I didn't think this was possible, but now I'm even more confused. I'm not able to display any of the shots shown in the document you reference in your most recent post. The first screen I see when I open the app is the one labeled "Home" in the document. When I select "Prepare Race" after pressing "I Agree", I get a screen that contains much of the same content as the one labeled "Guide" on slide 2, but none of the choices along the bottom of this screen (it's very hard to make out what these choices are saying), from which the screens labeled "First Level" (Timer, Racer's, Acceleration, etc.) originate appear to be available to me. I don't see any path to get to any of the screens displayed on slide 4. When I select "Analysis" from the screen that comes up after the intro screen, I get four choices - Prepare Race, Race, Analysis, and Administration. When I select Analysis, it brings up another screen that has four choices - a color-coded bar graph of my times in each segment of each lap, "Realtime", "Lap List", and "Video List". Selecting Lap List does give me a list of my 22 laps, but again, the information contained on each of these lap summaries is extremely limited - I don't see any commands that lead to any of the screens showed on slide 6. In particular, I'm not seeing any way to zoom in on any of the track segments.
Overall, I'm completely missing what I thought this app is supposed to provide - a turn-by turn analysis of my driving, showing where I'm fast, where I'm slow, how much of my car's availabe grip I'm using (via the G-G charts), in a combination of zoomable snapshots, and animations that I can play back. I'm not dreaming this up - I've seen youtube videos of outputs from HLT that show exactly what I'm describing, but at this point, I don't appear able to access these features. My problems are probably all user error, but even so, I would really appreciatie some help navigating this app to point out where I'm going wrong.
