Re: Dual XGPS160

The only way (on my moto x android phone) I can get hlt to connect to Dual is with the helper app.

Dual does not reply to emails & has no "help" forum that I can find.

Battery saver settings should be turned off on the phone as I "think" they disconnect the phone from the gps.

I am testing now to see how long phone and dual and hlt will stay connected.

Not a very "solid" situation so far.

-------------------------------------------------------

I am connected solid 40 min. now. MUST use helper app with my phone, I have not discovered a way to avoid this. The helper app corrupts my phone service so need to remember to turn it off after use. UGH.

Thanks for help.

Need to start writing a ck list for each use, so I can get all this to work each time.

Have you tried uninstalling this helper app completely? Are there any apps that really benefit from the additional input that are not able to connect directly? I'm not aware of an issue with XGSP160 Bluetooth connections to Android phones except when helper apps are around...

I am trying now HLT cas see the Dual on the sensor list and tells me "searching" but never connects. I cycled the Dual while HLT was searching but to no avail.

Thanks.

That's really strange... Try to kill the app and power cycle the XGPS160. Finally, restart the app. Last chance before I give up. :-(

Tried that. The Dual just connects to the phone internal gps. HLT sees the Dual and I touch it, it goes to Initialization, I touch set, I get the Information screen (changed sensor settings.........) I touch OK & HLT just keeps searching.

My moto x smart phone (and all smart phones so far as I know) has a built in 1mhz gps sensor. HLT has that on the sensor list along with the Dual.

When I do the last procedure you suggested, HLT connects (blue line solid on Dual) to the phone internal sensor.
And just keeps searching for the Dual to connect but does not ever connect.
:)

I just reread this and it doesn't make sense that if hlt is connected to the internal gps, why is the dual showing 1 blue line, yet that is what is showing.

Confused

Try again, helper app is deleted. HLT connects to internal gps (no blue line on dual)

HLT searches for dual it is listed on the sensor list but cannot connect. Cycle dual off/on.

Nothing

Received my XGPS160 this week and very excited about the first results. What a difference with using the internal iPhone GPS. Took several attempts to upgrade to the 1.3 firmware. Tried several times using my iPad mini, but got it done in the end using an iPhone 5.

Can't wait to try it on my EU road trip...

froggy47,

I suggest not starting HLT until the XGPS160 is connected to the phone (solid blue line). If it is started, kill HLT and restart it. Even with iOS 7.0.6 where Bluetooth isn't broken, or at least isn't as badly broken, HLT may not see the Dual if it's already using the internal GPS.

Thanks gplracerx for the post.

Moto X will not (it appears under any circumstance) connect to Dual without the helper app (Bluetooth GPS Provider by MOBILE-J.DE).

Moto X connects flawlessly every time I turn on the helper.

Moto X drops Dual as soon as I turn helper off.

So I guess, for now, I am stuck going thru the phone to the Dual

All above with HLT OFF.

With helper app running HLT does appear to use Dual as it's GPS feed & appears to work well. So in this scenario what is the downside of using the helper (other than it does seem to muck up my telephonic features on the phone)

The tech support for Dual - some avionics business in Florida? IS BEYOND USELESS. No return of email/voicemail/tweet/smokesignal/etc.

I only hope Dual gets to know how poorly they are being represented, as the little box seems ok otherwise.

Thanks!
