I don't see the 0 Hz BT1 problem happening, when I'm using the Emprum Ultimate GPS.

I still would like to know why the accelerometer didn't calibrate in video mode with the iPod in landscape position.

Acceleration calibration is tightly connected to GPS. So I assume this GPS connection issue is the reason.

That's right. I'd forgotten that the connection was suboptimal in that first run. I guess I need to remember to go to the GPS page and check to see if I'm getting 20 Hz every time before I head to the starting line.

Yes, it is a little bit like a pilot with a checklist he/she needs to go through before take off. :-) I plan to add a holistic health check for the next version. This would include availability of a track set around, iOS settings (like location service / airplane mode), sensor activity, calibrations state, etc.

Newly observed symptom: If I tap the satellite bar at the upper left in GPS view, it goes to a view of the sky. With the VBOX Sport, it always says "Acquiring Satellites" at the bottom and 0 satellites in view even though it's tracking 7 or so satellites and updating at 20 Hz. The Emprum works correctly once it gets a lock. You get color coded dots all over the sky.

That's o.k. The VBOX Sport does not deliver the satellite almanac / individual satellite information to display in the Satellites View. Opposed to this, the Emprum supports the "GPGSV" NMEA sentence.

The VBOX Sport delivers satellite view somehow because you can see it in the RL Diagnostics app.

You are really in the details ;-) And you are right, there seems to be a way to get this information. I will check with RL if they can make it available for Harry's LapTimer too. The high frequency sentence we currently use does not include this information.

I replicated my VBOX Sport's behavior with a brand new generation 5 iPod Touch. I'm sending it back for repair or replacement. Fortunately, I don't have to send it to England, they have a facility in Michigan.

Racelogic in the UK has been unable to duplicate my problem with my VBOX Sport. That means it's a software problem since I had the same problem with a new iPod after a restore from backup. The only thing I can think of is the update rate from the VBOX Sport. Maps software using Location Services probably won't handle a GPS update rate faster than 10Hz. The only thing I can think of right now is that the iPod is always trying to access the VBOX Sport at 20Hz rather than dropping back to 10Hz for Location Services. I'll try to look into this more closely when I get my VBOX Sport back.
