Sprocket change support

Post by ambordokan »

Harry, on this matter I think the motorcyclists among us lack support: my Ninja 300 has a primary ratio of 3.087 and a final ratio of 3.000 (stock, with original sprockets of 14 front and 42 rear). So, this means we should be able to insert a final drive of 9.261 and we are allowed to go just to 9.000.

Also, it would be really useful if we could, on a motorcycle setup, be able to change rear and front sprockets (a very common setup at the track) and be able to emulate somehow what would we achieve in terms of final speed on each gear.

What do you say?

Cheers!

As a workaround for the first item, just divide the final drive ratio by 2 and multiply all gear ratios by 2. For the second item, there is a general mechanism available. Configure your Ninja vehicle entry in standard configuration first ("Ninja 300"). Once this is done, press the "Duplicate" button in the bottom of the vehicle details, change the name to e.g. "Ninja 300 (sprockets XY)" and adjust the ratios. Now you have two vehicles, one for each configuration.

Great suggestion, Harry. The problem with this workaround is that my laps at the same circuit are not compared between different bikes, therefore every time I change sprockets and create a new profile I have to set a new best lap to compare at the track...

I think this implementation could be pretty simple and straightforward, much easier to do comparing to all those fancy video stuff you've working on lately and would prove a nice addition to your already great app.

Cheers!

So, what's your saying on the mater, Harry? Do you think it's something not that complicated that can be implemented on future versions?

I have tons of feature requests I constantly prioritize. I can't give you commitment on this one yet.

Btw. as long as you do not need to calculate gears from OBD speed and rpm, the ratios are for documentation only. In case you want to document the sprockets used per lap, please consider introducing two tags like "Short Sprocket", "Long Sprocket" and select the right tag when recording. This allows selection by sprocket configuration but will not break best time comparison.
