iPad Use

Post by PorscheDan »

Hi,
I am looking to install this in a Porsche Race car. I want to use the ipad. Will I need an external gps? I looked at the Tom Tom but those are for iPhones. In addition, we race at tracks in California will these be part of the tracks that you have? Specifically Willow Springs raceway in Rosamond CAlifornia. Thanks

Yes, you definitely need some external gps device, either something like this: http://bad-elf.com/products/gps/ or with bluetooth and BTStack (jailbreak needed, most 3rd party bluetooth gps devices supported).
Willow Springs is already available for download as a track set but even if not, you can make your own track sets.

Yes, agreed. Problem with the iPad (even with the 3G, which has the same GPS chip as the iPhone4) is that due to it's size you can't install is near the windscreen. In case you do not want to jailbreak I'd go for the GNS solution as you can position that in place best receiving conditions are. The Bad Elf has the advantage that - maybe - it will support higher update rates in the future. Checkout http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Compatibility.html for more information.
