Re: OBD2 bluetooth and external GPS bluetooth

Hope this is useful for someone... the files are from an autocross run on a road course at Firebird (Phoenix, AZ) on April 14.

Although I have not examined the details of the recorded data I have had success recording BT GPS, WiFi OBDII, acceleromoter, and 720p video in an autocross scenario (recording time is about one minute +/-). The iphone 4 is jailbroken and is running BStack GPS.

Re-used blue tooth MaxQData GPS (i-Blue 737 with 10Hz update rate $70 new $50 used)

Files (April 14, 2011 Firebird International Raceway West)

Video - started/stopped via GPS points at start/finish. Time accurate to the tenth of a second compared to official clock.

Had a look at the youtube vid, plus the Google Earth file, and the data seems very close to the line driven... Awesome...

It looks like Griffin Car trip will be released soon. When will lap timer support it?

Can't say because I first need to get my hands on one of these and then check how it can be accessed (it is connected using BT which will require me to find another route to data compared to the supported WLAN dongles).

Update on Griffin CarTrip

Post by Harry »

Hi,

Just received feedback from Griffin on LapTimer integration. They state they will not open up the CarTrip platform to third party developers, and keep their communication protocol exclusively to Griffin hardware and applications currently. That means they run their own 'closed' strategy. In case their protocol is proprietary, this means the device is dead for apps like LapTimer. In case they use a protocol like the ELM327, I will try. For the time being, this is a strong recommendation to go for the 'open' WLAN devices available.

Hello there, I am having a bit of trouble with pairing it to an external gps bluetooth and it seems to be unstable. It does not run off smoothly and like I am getting big jumps as I progress. Possibly signal interference?

Which BT device do you have? Most of the BT mouses out there are not certified by Apple and will not connect. The two I know are the GNS and the DUAL XGPS devices.

P.S. Off topic here

Looks like the Griffin CarTrip is dead. Are there any BT OBD options supported for the iPhone?

TIA

Not to my knowledge. There are some BT devices out there, but they have not certified with Apple so far (reasons unknown).
Where is the info on Griffin CarTrip's dead from?
