How to use the NMEA function?

Post by pa36651 »

Hi,
I downloaded the NMEA addon to this app, but I can not understand the usage, nor find any documentation. My hope is that I can connect the iphone via charging cable to the laptop, have the the sailor app running on the iphone and get the GPS signal sent to the laptop to be used by navigation SW running on the laptop. Please share documentation, or update the support inside the app. It is currently from 2010 (in v21.0.2).

Is it the Satellites feature you are talking about? The Satellites feature allows the display of satellites provided an external GPS sensor supporting the NMEA standard is connected (see www.gps-laptimer.de/compatibility/ios). It does not serve as a NMEA source for data collected by the iPhone.

Thanks for clarification so I can help.

Thank you for clarification.
The following question is then if it is possible to use the iPhone as GPS source for a navigation SW running on a laptop. My understanding is that it should be sufficient if the iPhone could send RMC in NMEA0183 format.

Technically feasible, but I don't know if something like this is available.
