lap timer won't calibrate

Post by max1994 »

Hi.

I recently bought the Grand Prix Edition of Harrys Lap timer. When i got to the track (Wakefield) i attempted to set it all up.
I defined the user, selected my car, my name and the track and loaded it. I then click "drive" and the timer comes up.

The bar at the top has errors which prevented me from starting the time (i took these screenshots at home so that's why "track nearby" and "gps" are red. The only red bar was "calibration" while at the track.
The info tells me the acceleration sensor is not yet calibrated.

Going to the acceleration tab I choose "preset" calibration but it continues to load and not initilize.
Back at the main menu the "Calibration" tab continuously initialises and choosing "preset" does not solve it.
If i try to calibrate manually i am presented with the 4 steps, with the 1st clearing (green tick) and the following steps continuously loading.

I really want this to work as this app looks like it has all the right data and info I need.
I have uploaded the screenshots in the comments so sorry for the multiple posts, I didnt know how else to get them all up for people to see

Let me know if there's anything else i can do!

Thanks, Max

First off, a missing accelerometer calibration will not keep LapTimer from working. You may get wrong acceleration data, but that's all. In case you go for an individual calibration instead of the presets, the last step of calibration will happen when going down a straight and engaging your brakes fully. The details on individual calibration are documented in "Acceleration Handling" available from www.gps-laptimer.de/documenation

Instead of individual calibration, I recommend to switch back to LapTimer's automatic preset and one of the morning positions shown in illustration #3 in LapTimer's Quick Reference. Return to the standard settings here: LapTimer ‣ Administration ‣ Settings ‣ Acceleration ‣ Calibration ‣ Automatic Preset. Individual calibration can be complex and should be used for special requirements only.

Hi,

Thanks for lightening fast response!
I see. I found somewhere on the app or the forum that red warnings must be dealt with in order for the app to work properly but I'll try that out.

At the track (from memory) I seem to remember choosing the user and track, hitting drive, selecting left hand drive as the preset and seeing the red calibration so I locked my phone and stuck it in the glove box. Guessing it doesn't work while locked?

Its a shame I can only make sure its working while on the track. Driving kinda takes up a lot of brain power haha

I'll have a good read of those documents.

Cheers

You can practice LapTimer use by defining your own track around the block or for the way to work. Please try the Autocross or the New Track assistants. LapTimer will not work when locked / sleeping. In case you put the device into the glove box, you will screw up acceleration measures and most probably reduce GPS accuracy to an extend the app will not work.
