Managing track lap data and drive space

Post by cayman pyrat »

I used HLT last year at 3 different tracks with several track configurations, and love the app. Second season at my home track starts soon (for me) and I'm trying to prep my Android S5. I've seen the posts about managing the videos, and keeping the video archive off of the Android, no problem with that. However, my desire is to maintain all of the lap data for analysis and to track my progress as I work my way faster into higher HPDE classes. I don't know how much memory the track data eats up. So, as long as I'm purging the videos each day into Dropbox or onto my PC, can I keep what will be dozens of laps from last year along with this year for analysis without wiping out valuable drive space for the daily session videos?

I also want to know whether or not there is a way, for example, to archive my data from those tracks I won't see (Spa and Nordschleife) until I drive over in Europe again. And if I drive there again (likely but not this year) will I be able to restore those track sessions into HLT when I want to use them?

Many thanks to Harry and all of the developers.

Hi,

Data recordings use a comparably small amount of storage - at least compared to video requirements. As an example, my own database has 210000 positions (see header in Lap List) logged and requires 27 MB for the main database.

My recommendation is to regularly backup data but keep all data with you. You can export data by track using the .hlptrl format and restore it later if required. Instructions are available here: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3341

The upcoming LapTimer v20 edition will come with a new view allowing housekeeping databases. It will get available in April.

Things using up memory besides the main databases are local backups and cached media files. The new view will allow you to purge this data.
