Harry SUCCESS! After turning engine off, letting tablet shut down & then restart, the obd is connected. I suspect the chane to insecure BT made the difference but I will unticket it to confirm. Now onto getting the GoPro to connect as an external cam!

In case you can verify it is about the insecure connection, please drop me a mail from within LapTimer (Contact button). Please add "insecure connection" as a reminder. This will allow me to add the device model to the insecure white list LapTimer comes with and help other users.

Re: Unable to detect OBD and GoPro / OBD Solved!

Post by ltullos »

Harry, I did confirm that I needed to set the bluetooth connection to insecure; but I found I was still having problems connection after this. The culprit was that my Torque application somehow retained a connection to the OBDLink MX sensor even though the application was not running. I was aware that having another app connected to the sensor could prevent the connection to HLT, but assumed if the app was not loaded and running it was OK. To solve this, it wasn't enough just to shut the app completely down (killing it & rebooting); I had to open Torque and select USB connection instead of BT. That released it and I've had no problems connection since.

I'm still unable to get the Multicam connection going with my GoPro Hero3+, but will come back to that in a separate post.

Unable to make Multicam connection

Post by ltullos »

Harry, I've exhausted the instructions for making the Multicam connection to my GoPro Hero 3+ Specifically what I have done is:
1. Connect my Nexus-7 tablet to the GoPro Hero wi-fi
2. On the settings page I have
a. ticked Discover MultiCams
b. Selected the HERO3 option
c. Entered the HERO3 password (verifying it is correct)
d. MultiCam preset - I tried Master and PIP
d. On Expert Settings / Video Tweaks, I also entered the Network IP address (after initial configuration did not work)

Results
a. the MultiCam never shows shows up in the connection list
b. in Timer/Video view, the internal camera is connected and records, but I never see the blue/green indicators on the camera icon
c. sometimes I have seen the wifi icon in the Timer/Video view white and active, sometimes it remains gray, and once I thought I saw a white exclamation point through it. Not sure what to expect here or what these mean.
d. I'm able to run the GoPro App on the Nexus-7 to connect to the camera, turn it off & on, and record independently from HLT. After verifying this I killed the app, rebooted, and restarted HLT, but I'm still unable to see any kind of connection to the camera.

If I understand correctly, the only function that HLT is doing with the external cam is to turn it off and on. If this is the case, I can do this manually or through the Nexus-7 GoPro app correct? My next step is to try to do this and to then transfer a short recorded video from the GoPro to my Nexus-7 tablet

The Wifi symbol shows the status of the LapTimer / LapTimer server connection. While being connected to the HERO, it will be either gray (no connection) or gray with the white exclamation sign because LapTimer can't connect to the server while in the HERO network.

The connection to the HERO is shown in the cam symbol. When opening Video View, you should see the video icon getting white and a small blinking gray dot in it. This means LapTimer is looking for external cams. Please make sure to have the latest HERO firmware installed too.
