Open .vbo error

I have a number of .vbo files generated from my VBOX Sport this weekend. I couldn't take my phone with me in the car so I had to use the VBOX Sport standalone. Anyway, I then emailed and sent to DropBox my .vbo file. When I touch on my iPhone it asks what to open with and when I pick HLT it says: "The file selected cannot be processed by this application". I don't see any options to try to wanted to see what idea you might have for me to try to open this .vbo file with HLT.

I loaded the track in HLT before touching the .vbo file. Not sure if that matters.

Yes, you need to load the track ahead of import. Please send one of the .vbo files to me (Harry at gps-laptimer.de) and I will check what is going on. Please add the track driven to your mail.

Please switch the extension to lower caps (.vbo) and try again.

I changed the filename to race.vbo but it is, unfortunately, giving me the same error. To make sure I'm not doing something wrong, I load HLT, then select my track, then I go to my Google Drive (where I have the file) and touch race.vbo. It asks what application I want to open with and I select HLT. The HLT app opens and gives that error message.

Please double check your file name. Take care you do not have spaces appended and things like this. You may try a simple mail as an alternative to Google Drive. I just renamed your file to race.vbo too and it recognized 9 laps.

Thanks Harry. Turns out I cannot change the extension in Google Drive. It renamed the file but kept the .VBO at the end. After downloading and renaming manually it worked perfect! Thanks for your help. If i might put in a feature request, can HLT also recognize capital VBO as that would save some steps in this process since I'm doing it mostly from a mobile device. Thanks again!

I have changed that for v19 already. One additional note on your data: there are frequent sequences of 0 latitude / 0 longitude positions included in the .vbo file. Although LapTimer detects most of the laps correctly nevertheless, some of the track shapes look ugly. You may consider filtering this sequences ahead of importing the data into LapTimer. I assume the sequences are range where the VBOX Sport had no satellite lock. In general, reception has been weak for the early laps - mostly only 3 or 4 satellites and low accuracy. The later laps are fine.

Great! Thanks for the tips on filtering ahead of import. Unfortunately in this open wheel car the only place I could mount the VBOX (without getting into trouble) was inside the car with me on a frame tube that really didn't have much visibility when the VBOX turned sideways. Was shocked it worked at all. Then later I turned it right side up as it didn't hit my helmet like I though it would and started getting better signal. I'll have to figure out a better mount for next time as there will definitely be a next time.

There's an external antenna for the VBOX Sport that has a smaller footprint than the device. It's magnetic and it's recommended that it be attached to a a metal surface with a 10cm/4inch minimum diameter for best reception. I would think that you could mount either the device or the antenna underneath a fiberglass body without affecting reception much. Don't know about carbon fiber.
