Users can start video recording manually. When LapTimer triggers, video recording is started latest. Afterwards LapTimer records video continuously - as long as at least double the space of the video is available on the device. Every time a lap is timed, both start and end point are stored in sync with the video. This start and end point can be used later to synchronize the overlay. Video recording is stopped either by he user, or when the video view is closed, or when the minimum space requirements are not met anymore. The video is transferred to the photo library. During overlay creation, the user can select the time to be displayed ahead of start (if available) and past finish (if available).

Sounds reasonable? Bad news is, this is scheduled for v15.

Hi Harry

So are you saying we can start video recording manually, so say when in the pits just before setting out onto track. The lap times will still be recorded when passed start/finish or ref points on the loaded track etc. but it shall be just one long continous video which only stops when the users selects so or space runs out.

I think this is what you are saying yes?

For me the most important criteria is:-
1. Manual recording, so I can basically record my entire session which could be 10 minutes or 30 minutes depending how long I spend out on track, so a manual start/stop is crucial.
2. Been able to overlay GPS, G-Force and OBD data onto my recorded videos.
3. Yes its a nice bonus to have the software note lap times and load the track and show the cars GPS location on track etc, but its not crucial, I am more interested in being able to record my track days by having good quality video with the OBD data overlayed, anything else is just a bonus. :)

If so sounds good to me, whats the ETA for v15?

What is the scheduled release date or even month for v15 ? Still scheduled for the spring?

Recording/overlaying consecutive laps is very valuable, thanks for this enhancement.

I think it would be better to have a setting that would delay the video record for X number of laps, then start recording for Y number of laps. This way, you're not wasting battery and storage space during the warmup lap(s).

If you had time to be exotic, then it would be really cool to give the user the ability to kill video recording for the current lap by pressing the + volume button, then start recording again immediately for the next lap (or some seconds before). This way, the driver could effectively edit their video as they drive, and discard video for boring laps where they got caught up in traffic or something. That would reduce the chances that your best lap was one of the laps that got skipped. Or I guess you could even automate that logic with an option to have it automatically kill video recording if your current lap isn't within X seconds of your best lap by the time you are X% through the course.

Egarly awaiting the spring release!
I got my external GPS (UltiMate), I'm about to order a OBDII add-on.

If continual video is possible, this will be the ultimate track day app for me.

Can't wait for the release.

Just a short update on the topic. :-)

Continuous video recording is up and running already. I need to work on stability and other features, but it definitiely works. So stay tuned, spring starts on 20th of March (and ends 21st of June ). Please subscribe the Announcements forum to get notified on availability and call for beta testers.

I'll be at the Ring March 18-21, so I guess there is a sliver of a chance of getting my hands on 15 while there.... :geek:

Recording more than a lap

Post by aquesada09 »

I go to a track in the US and used the lap timer pro. It is a great tool and I love the features.

The track is 2.25 miles long. When I use the video recording feature with my Iphone 4S I get great quality video and then I overlay the data -it's awesome-. What I have a hard time understanding is how is it that the device decides which lap to record on video and which don't. I wish I was able to record on video more than just one lap at a time since sometimes I get to do 7+ laps in a session.

Can somebody help me? May be it is just not possible since it is called "lap timer" or may be I don't know how to set up the device so I can do a whole session with video
