I have the same issue.

When i look at the file stats, the original video file is some 750megs long, however the video with the overlay is 150m. So there is a significant compression happening.
The video with overlay seems indeed quite choppy and when looking at the time, the frames are not in correct order always.

I will provide with a link with the original vide and the overlaid video here. What datafiles or such do you require from the device to try this yourself?

The overlay video was the reason i purchased this app btw, i'm hoping there is something we can do about this to make it better. I don't mind doing the
overlay on serverside / on my desktop, as long as the end result looks better than the current one, which is frankly not usable.

In case the frames are not in order, they are probably delivered in this way by your cam. In case you link the original / overlaid video, please add information at what position in the video the frames are out of order so I can check that. In case you do not consider the app usable for your configuration, please delete it and apply for a refund as described on http://www.gps-laptimer.de/LapTimer_Products.html / "Extended Refund Policy". I have the same issue with Samsung Note 3.

The original video recorded is flawless and smooth but overlay video is choppy and also makes a lot of artifacts in dark recordings. The video was recorded using Note 3, not GoPro in my case.

I have an iPhone4 also but chose the Android version because I thought the Note 3 should be considerably faster than the iPhone4 but it appears that the Android version is not as good..

Since the original video is nice and smooth, I would assume that this is happening due to wrong compression being done during the overlay process.

Is this something that will be fixed soon or do I need to apply for a refund then buy the iOS version? In fact, is iOS version free from this problem?

Without a sample to reproduce the "flipped frames" issue, I can't fix it. Anyone with this problem may upload the video to a file server and send a pointer to me (Harry@gps-laptimer.de). Flipped frames and poor output quality from artifacts are two separate things. Try increasing the Overlay Quality in LapTimer's Settings, this will improve the artifacts.

In general, video processing is by far better supported by iOS. Video processing in Android is a pain to tell the truth. The libraries provided are poor and software / hardware integration is even poorer. Nevertheless, the iPhone4 is a dated device nowadays and although it will be better in video processing (higher quality and much faster due to hardware acceleration provided), I do not recommend it any more as video recording and processing GPS data at the same time generates drop outs in GPS in the last iOS versions. Harry, I was trying to re-encode the video file hoping that the process would help with this. FFMPEG doesn't seem to help, but I thought perhaps quicktime pro would. I tried exporting from QT Pro 7 using MP4 output, but when I add the video to the laptimer and try overlay, I get Code 7 error (codec). Have you ever tried QT pro output encoding? Are there specific settings needed to work with the laptimer? I just used the same resolution and bit rate as the original video.

LapTimer video library should accept most encodings and container formats. I have no experience with QT Pro however, if you send the exact codec / encoding used for video and audio, I can check against the "spec".

What's the easiest way to find this in the video? Opening the code information in something like VLC just tells me "MPEG-4 Video (mp4v)"
