Total acceleration plot display before overlay
Total acceleration plot display before overlay
I noticed my acceleration plot is tilted for most of my laps and I'm assuming it's due to my first hard breaking point not being perfectly straight (entering Hohenrain Schikane on the Nordschleife). As far as I can see, the tilted plot is also used for the overlay leading to a somewhat wrong display of G-forces. I regularly overlay laps just to see the acceleration plot must have been tilted and I have to manually move the plot and then overlay again. I know, it's me being stupid but I wonder if it would be possible to make the plot pop up at some point after pressing overlay so one can check if the plot is aligned correctly and correct it if needed.

Re: Total acceleration plot display before overlay
There is a total g plot in charts. On my car, anyway, any tilt from a bad calibration is obvious and the buttons for correcting it are right there. Why not look at that before overlaying?
Re: Total acceleration plot display before overlay
I guess you just need to read my suggestion again...you're perfectly right, I'm just suggesting to maybe add it to the overlaying workflow so anybody who isn't aware of that possibility gets the chance to correct the plot before overlaying. All the bits and pieces are already available and maybe it's an easy implementation...but that's up to Harry to judge.

Re: Total acceleration plot display before overlay
It just never occurred to me that anyone would want to start an overlay without having checked the charts first.

Well...I guess your approach is the correct one and frequent readers here at the forum already know by now that you're quite an expert extracting and evaluating data.
But I'm more of an "uneducated visual idiot" and sometimes just like to take the overlayed video as a starting point for driving analysis, using the g-plot in the video to generally see if in theory I could have pushed more while breaking and cornering at certain points...so I regularly start the overlay and watch the video to find out I missed checking the data before overlaying

Re: Total acceleration plot display before overlay
Looking into the videos published on youtube, I see quite some situations with incomplete acceleration calibration or mis-calibration...Nevertheless, I tend to not add another unconditional user interaction - the whole process needs to be an easy one. Maybe I can use the auto rotation and bring the dialog up in case LapTimer would rotate data more than say - 10 degrees... So rotation > 10 degree -> bring up the dialog to correct data, <= 10 degree -> continue without interaction.

Re: Total acceleration plot display before overlay
I still would like the ability to turn off yaw calibration and just assume the z axis is pointed in the right direction, i.e. the phone is perpendicular to the center line of the car. I'm sure that I can orient my phone by eye to better than plus or minus ten degrees from the car's center line. That's what I think 'Force Calibration' in the acceleration calibration dialog or tapping the 'last max' display should do. Instead it too often seems to pick a random angle. If you could turn off auto calibration, you could test the calibration by rotating the phone by hand around the pitch and roll axes to see if it looks approximately correct without having to drive around. Then you could tweak the position of the mount to zero out lateral and lineal acceleration with the car stopped and level.
