Must GoPro be controlled by HLT in order to overlay?

Post by devenh »

Harry,

Is it required that the GoPro be controlled by HLT in order to overlay it?

I'm asking this for a couple of reasons. First, I'm running a road rally so there is only one "lap" and I don't want to screw up :D In my testing I have experienced a situation with HLT controlling the GoPro that the video started, but for some unknown reason, later stopped before completing the lap. I am highly confident I can start and stop the GoPro with my thumb (sometimes simple is more reliable).

Second, I want to record a few minutes before and after the lap. I believe I may be able to manually start the GoPro before starting (standinggo), but when I cross the finish line the video will stop (Maybe I could get around this by defining the finish as a stop/go?).

So what I'd like to do is have HLT record iPhone video to be used as PIP and have the manually controlled GoPro video be the main camera and overlay it. Is this possible?

Also, can the PIP video be shot in portrait orientation and overlayed in portrait mode?

I've used video from a Hero version 1, which doesn't have Wi-Fi at all. So no, it doesn't need to be controlled by HLT. You will likely need a video editor, though.

Yes, you can manually record a video and assign it to LapTimer laps later. Please check the last section in http://www.gps-laptimer.com/LapTimerDoc ... hapter.pdf for some details.
