Samsung Tablet and Video Overlay

Post by wls350z »

HI
Awesome app first of.
Newbie here.

Im doing a track day this sunday.
I have a 350z HR with a Samsung Tablet Mounted in the Dashboard, with the Laptimer on it.
My question is this.

can i record the data and Overlay it onto an action cam video i plan on mounting on my Car?
I use Isaw2 cameras, and Pinnacle Studio 17 Software to make clips.
so id like to use the data recorded in my video editing?

thanks in advance

Yes, that's possible. Please use LapTimer in standard mode (i.e. without video recording). Start the cam ahead of leaving the pits. Once you are back, stop video recording for your cam and cancel lap timing in LapTimer (Cancel stops the cool down lap). Now the tough part starts. You need to convert the video to a video format supported by your Android phone / LapTimer and store it in /Movies on your SD card. Add this SD card to your tablet and start LapTimer (you will probably need to kill and restart LapTimer so it recognized the SD card Movies folder). Now, select any lap from the session (in Lap List), and press the +Video button in the top right of the screen. Select the video from the list and select the frame in the video that matches the *end* of the lap you selected in Lap List. This will create a relation between the lap / the session / and the video. Now, press Overlay to start an overlay. Start with one lap to make sure it works.

LapTimer video library seems to work best with HD video compress in H.264 and a .mp4 container.

Seems I need to update the video documentation to Android soon (http://www.gps-laptimer.com/LapTimerDoc ... hapter.pdf), I feel I have written down this process several times already... Please check the doc nevertheless to get the concept behind what I have written above.

Split the screen and use two apps at once that is another good thing in these tablets..thinner, lihter and much faster.. and supports all video formats

Please try to increase the Overlay Quality setting to Highest in LapTimer -> Settings -> Video -> Overlay Quality
The lineup looks fine from my point of view but certainly depends on the position the start / finish line for the track set is defined at. As long as you are not driving in competition with an alternate timing system, some difference between "reality" and track set definition shouldn't disturb as the alternate definition applies both for the start and the finish - eliminating differences.
