Ok, so I'm trying to overlay my data on top of a GoPro video. This all being done in an iPad Mini with HLT Grand Prix v18.1.
This is a GoPro controlled by HLT. I initially tried recording in 1080p (1920 x 1080). When overlaying the data onto the video, the video was stretched out from 16:9 to 4:3 (iPad's native dimensions). So I thought... maybe HLT likes converting files to the device's native dimension.
Today I recorded in 4:3 (1280 x 960) and instead of keeping it in 4:3, HLT converted the video from 4:3 to 16:9! Now it's too squished.
Why doesn't HLT like keeping the native dimensions? What am I doing wrong?
Overlaid video, changed video dimensions?
Re: Overlaid video, changed video dimensions?
Hi,
LapTimer does not change the dimensions - it overlays them one to one. So this probably happened when transferring the videos to the iPod? How did you transfer the footage?

Re: Overlaid video, changed video dimensions?
Hmmm if it were an conversion/upload problem, then the raw video should also have the problem. But I can view the raw video in it's native dimension before overlaying it. I'll view the raw video through HLT (after it's been linked) or through the pictures app.
My process for transferring the videos onto the iPad is to copy the video files from the GoPro SD card onto a mac. Then I'll right click on the files and click "Encode Selected Video Files" to convert it into an iPad format. Then I copy it to the pictures folder on the mac and sync it onto the iPad. I then go to HLT and Link the lap with the video.
I tried 960x540 a month ago when the GoPro dimensions were 1080p (16:9). Yesterday I tried 1280x960 when the GoPro dimensions were the same.
Maybe it's a file-type problem? The 960x540 file is a .m4v file. The 1280x960 file is a .mov file.
The other thought is that it could be a bug related to the device. The iPad mini has 4:3 dimensions while the iPhone has 16:9. Although I just tested it and it looks like both the iPad and iPhone show the same thing.
I'll upload the videos later today so you can see the raw and overlaid videos.

Re: Overlaid video, changed video dimensions?
Sorry, I mixed Android and iOS up. On Android, the master video dimensions are used, while on iOS, one of these dimensions is used for video generation:
- Harry
- 640 x 480 (4:3)
1280 x 720 (16:9)
1920 x 1080 (16:9)
- >= 1080 uses 1920 x 1080
>= 720 uses 1280 x 720
the rest goes to 640 x 480

Ahhh Perfect! That's exactly the app behavior that I was seeing, thanks for the info.
