Laptimer and XGPS160 issue

Hi guys, I've used the timer successfully before at Phillip Island when I solely used the phone, but in that instance I was able to mount the phone in a protected area and flat.

So with the new track bike I can't do this so opted to purchase and XGPS160 and use it to Bluetooth to my iPhone. Now I just put my IPhone in my pocket once it all connected etc but it refused to collect any data.

Is this because the phone was no longer laying flat?

Is there an issue with the XGPS160 not connecting correctly?

I'm thoroughly confused!

Hi,

Please always check you have a good GPS reception before storing the iPhone. As you can't see the device while driving, his is "the last chance to check everything is right". There is a known problem with iOS7.1 and 7.1.1 I'm still investigating on. For more information, please check viewtopic.php?f=19&t=422&start=130#p11274

Please do not store your iPhone in your pockets. Use a glove box or similar instead. The problem is you have no control "what you touch" while the phone is in your pocket. In case you pressed the sleep button to work around that issue, this has been the reason you did not get recordings. When the device is sent to sleep, LapTimer sleeps - this doesn't work. I'm in the same boat. Great success before but now with the XGPS160, HLT has not captured a single lap in three sessions. It has great GPS signal. But even though it's connected to HLT with an update rate, everything stops at some point.

It's very disappointing. I guess I will switch back to the iPhone 5 internal GPS.

Well you've nailed it as I've been hitting the sleep button prior to putting the phone in my pocket. When I've used it in the past, I've had a perfect spot for it, but with track fairings I no longer have the slot for it.

I assume, when the phone auto sleeps, it's ok as it's worked that way in the past.

Auto sleep allowed continuing the app in early iOS versions (iOS4 or before), but didn't work in the last 2 years or so.
LapTimer usually keeps the device from going to sleep, that's probably the secret it worked.

Ok, now to find a hiding place that wont disturb the phone. At least it's going to be accurate with the antenna!
