Ipod touch fourth gen with GP version. With just the ipod and gps I can record video and start and stop it manually. When I try to control the gopro as well the ipod gets quite slow and sometimes just freezes on the video screen and the ipod has to be booted to come out of it. Also in AX mode it seems to miss triggers when the gopro is connected.
I see the warning about parallel video and slowness on ipod 4, but is that the same as just starting and stopping the gopro? I will probably get a faster ipod anyway but I'd rather wait until they release the new one.
Thanks!

Re: iPod touch 4 slow when controlling gopro
The iPod 4th gen will have the same limitations like the iPhone4 (same processor). From what you write the device is overloaded keeping all the connections and doing video and data processing in parallel. I wonder a little it is the GoPro connection that drives the device beyond the limit... There is almost no communication between LapTimer and the HERO going on while recording (by design). This in turn makes me believe the problem happens on a very low iOS level where BT (GPS) and wifi need to be operated at the same time.
So yes, for a very complex configuration like yours, you need to consider a later device. In case you want to check the latest news (and expected release dates for next generation) on a specific device, please check the round-ups on Mac Rumors: http://www.macrumors.com/roundup/ipod-touch/ (not a lot information on iPod touches currently, but that will change towards Summer).

Re: iPod touch 4 slow when controlling gopro
I also have an iPod touch 4G 64GB I use for Multicam Setups and it works just fine with that.
Also installed GP on it but haven't logged / filmed with it, will try and report back (without GoPro).
Just wanted to point out the iPod 4G didn't get an iOS 7 update and the newest firmware is 6.1.6. I remember you mentioning the video processing in iOS 7 has become a lot more demanding for the device and that's why the iPhone 4 became so slow with video recording. Does this also apply to iOS 6 on the iPod in the newest Laptimer version or does the Laptimer version work differently on iOS 6 devices?

Re: iPod touch 4 slow when controlling gopro
It is the overall setup in this case. iOS7 seems to add some limitations in processing, that's true. But for this configuration with an external GPS plus an external cam and the internal cam it is probably too much even with iOS6. This is when you drive a system to the borderline, at a certain point things never disturbing operation trigger an overall issue.
