What data can we get from a Ferrari?

Post by gowthamn »

Can we get oil pressure, temperature tire temp and pressure etc from the OBD in a Ferrari? Mine is F8 Tributo.
Can we also get throttle and brake position and steering angle?

You can find a list of LapTimer supported OBD parameters in Engine Data.

To get these parameters, your car needs to support them too. It is a manufacturer decision which parameters available on the car's bus are actually propagated to the OBD gateway. Many manufacturers cripple this unnecessarily.
  • Oil pressure: depends on you car OBD gateway, yes in general
  • Tire temperature and pressure: not an OBD parameter, available in LapTimer using external TPMS sensors only (see compatibility lists)
  • Throttle: yes
  • Brake: probably using custom PIDs, will be calculated by LapTimer otherwise
  • Steering angle: probably using custom PIDs

If OBD does not support it, can it be read directly from the bus and shown in the app?

The OBD adapters serve as the interface between app and the car's bus. Once you want more than the parameters listed in the linked document (please read, it is providing an overview on technologies used), once needs to implement car / model specific hardware and software.

If race capture has the hardware to measure a parameter, can it be added to HLT?

I can't answer whether the named parameters get available in RaceCapture and your car, please contact ASL on this. LapTimer interfaces with RaceCapture devices provided the RaceCapture system is configured to match LapTimer's requirements. Please see viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4244 for some more information. We have not worked on this interface for some time, so please be warned. :-) Other than the simple OBD path, using RaceCapture will always require special configuration.
