Using HLT w/External Mic and Google Pixel 2

Hi all!
Just getting my A/V setup all sorted before heading out to the track next month. Intending to use HLT on a Pixel 2 along with an external mic, which Google has recently introduced support for natively.
I'm curious if HLT will also support an external mic when using the native camera app? Has anyone tried it or have any experience?
