OBD Measurements for Specific Vehicle?

Post by wadeinthewater »

I had been using TrackAddict on an Android and recently switched to an AiM SoloDL, specifically so I could get Brake pressure and wheel speed measurements that were not available in TrackAddict.

The AiM SoloDL gives me those measurements through the OBD connector - the Porsche 981S w/PDK has the CAN bus pins in the OBD connector.

I'm not happy with the SoloDL for several reasons, so I'm looking at going back to Android and maybe trying HLT, but I really want brake pressure in particular.

I've scoured the documentation and this forum and several other places, as well as posing questions in the Porsche forums, but haven't seen an answer to this question...

Is there any way to know in advance whether the brake pressure and wheel speed measurements will be available on this specific car with HLT, or should I just buy the app and request a refund if it doesn't provide what I'm looking for?

LapTimer calculates brake pressure from negative longitudinal acceleration minus air resistance based on car characteristics. It is certainly better to have some custom PID available, but for Porsches it is difficult. If anyone has insights, I’m happy to add whatever is needed. ;-)

I noticed the Garmin Virb displays the brake pressure for a Porsche 992. I believe the brake pressure is collected by the Garmin OBD2 dongle. Does anyone know what the PID is for Porsche? I'm driving the 981 GTS.

These are AIM settings, they cannot be used for OBD II devices. I have no idea what the VIRB shows, but I’d give it less then 1% percent probability it is brake pressure from a proprietary car bus. :-D LapTimer calculates brake pressure from negative longitudinal direction corrected by air drag. So this will the best you can get without a manufacturer specific tool.
