GoPro's app is required as a one time action to define the HERO's WiFi and account and things like this. This one time action includes some fiddling with BT and WiFi. It is not required afterwards, neither is BT used by LapTimer for action cam operation.

So the simpler sequence is:

1) turn on HERO (including WiFi / app mode)
2) connect smartphone to HERO WiFi (and confirm it has no internet connectivity so it stays connected)
3) launch LapTimer, and enable external video recording in Timer ‣ Video; check that status in Timer View: camera with green and blue dots blinking
