OBD data on motorcycle

Post by torszula »

Can OBD data be captured on a motorcycle(Yamaha R6)? There is no OBD connectors on the bike so curious how to capture the data so it can be displayed in a video.

OBD II is mandatory for cars, but not motorbikes. Some manufacturers utilize it nevertheless, some add incompatibilities, and some do their own stuff. The plug is almost always not OBD II complaint and needs some adapter. To answer the question for your R6, please contact one of the OBD adapter manufacturers or search some general motorbike forums.

In case the R6 has no OBD available, the only option is to wire connections manually. You will need some more sophisticated adapter allowing connection of wires to analog and digital sources too. A sample is ASL's RaceCapture series. Expensive and quite a lot of work to do.
