Garmin Edge 25 GPS

Post by jasong »

Hi everyone,

Has anyone had any luck getting a Garmin Edge 25 GPS to work with Harry's Laptimer? I have the device paired to my Android phone but the Edge 25 shows as "searching" followed by "Not Available".

The phone's built-in GPS works fine with the app.

Thanks
Jason

I do not see any Garmin spec on the protocol used for the BT interface. I doubt it is a NMEA stream which is required by LapTimer. Do you think the Garmin will deliver better accuracy than the smartphone's GPS? Using external sensors add complexity, so I'd add them only in case they add a real benefit.

It was more about having a small gps to mount to the bike and keeping the phone in my pocket as opposed to trying to mount a larger phone....

This doesn’t work anyway. LapTimer requires foreground mode, you must not set it to sleep either. So the place for your smartphone should be a stable mount on your handle bar. See illustration #4 in LapTimer’s Quick Reference.
