Apple Watch Not Starting HLT

Hi all,

I recently got an Apple Watch S3, and am not able to start HLT on it.

I get a screen message to "Please start Harry's LapTimer on you iPhone" and can't get past that.
I have tried starting the phone app first and also starting the watch app first.
I have also tried unloading / reloading from the watch, resetting the watch and reloading the watch from scratch, and reloading the iphone from a backup.
No difference regardless of what I do.

However, heart rate is getting loaded to Healthkit and I can see heart rate data in the HLT iPhone analysis charts.

Watch Series 3, WatchOS: 4.2 <---corrected from 4.3
iPhone 6, iOS:11.2.1
HLT Version: Grand Prix 21.2

Is this a known issue? Is there something I can do to fix?

Thanks!
Mike

When using the Apple Watch to record heart rates, please just make sure you are getting high update rates. For older watches, this required to enable any work out mode. This will feed data into HK and LapTimer will use it. I do not have access to a 3rd gen device, but assume it is the same here.

The existing Apple Watch integration does not support this work out mode enabling and needs rework. It is not required to measure heart rates.

Hi Harry,

Thanks for getting back to me. But I guess I was not clear about my issue.

LT IS getting heart rate data, so that is not an issue.

But I am not able to get the LT app to start on my watch. According to iTunes, there should be a screen on the watch for start/stop/alert, or showing last lap time. But my watch gets stuck on the screen in the picture attached, even though the app is running on the iPhone when I took this.

Thanks!! :)
Mike

Probably an issue with the last Watch OS update, I haven't checked it as I need to change the watch part anyway. Maybe in v22.

watchOS support will go away for LapTimer v22 temporary. It will be reenabled once functionality has been reworked.

Hi Harry,

Just wanted to follow up about this Apple Watch issue.

This weekend when using HLT at autocross, I discovered that in Settings -> Expert Settings -> Accessory Tweaks, there is a button for "Use Watch". I suppose the default setting for this is off.
I was not aware of this and turned it on and my Watch now connects with HLT.

If others are having this issue, maybe they are also not aware that this feature has to be turned on.

Thanks and Best Regards!
Mike

Hi!

Just wanted to follow up on the watch issue.
I found on HLT on my iphone under Admin -> Settings -> Expert Settings that there is a toggle button for "Use Watch".
I was not aware of this before and I guess the default position is "off".
Changing this to on and my watch connects to HLT fine now.
Maybe this just needs to be clearer in documentation...?

Thanks!
Mike

This function is disabled by default currently. The watch implementation is somewhat outdated and not too useful.

Just curious if the Apple Watch compatibility has become usefull and if watchOS 5 is available in v23. As third party apps can now access the heart rate monitor I am curious if a higher frequency is possible.

*offtopic: As a HLPT GP user I know this is not a 'must need' function, but a nice extra for which I would love to buy an Apple Watch. Harry should get a referral bonus for that!
