Hero3 adb push foo.mp4 "Read-only file system"

Post by bozosTelemetry »

HLT GP v20.0.17

$ adb push GOPR000?.MP4 \
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.harrys.laptimerpro/files/Movies
failed to copy 'GOPR0001.MP4' to 'GOPR0002.MP4': Read-only file system

I can't connect my Hero3 using WiFi? Can connect/control using GoPro app
Videos appear in HLT Video List under Hero3/3+
but they do not download to the phone for overlay

I figured I could use adb and push them, but nope
What's up?

You are using an app sandbox folder for the dab command. I believe this is not allowed with late Android versions any more. You need to use a general write able folder instead.

For direct downloads from within the app, the HERO3 is not reliable enough. This is the reason this feature is disabled in Expert Settings. Using a file transfer tool (or adb) is the preferred path.

In case your HERO3 does not react to commands, please check the password entered in LapTimer's Settings. It needs to be same like the GoPro WiFI password.

I can connect via wifi, and I can see them, but when I click on the large icon I get a dialog that says
X Error
Cannot find video
Offline need to be transferred...

But exactly how, and to which folder, does one transfer the video file?
How does one "relink" the session to the transferred video?

Please have a look into Video Documentation available from www.gps-laptimer.de/documentation. It is not yet updated to v20 but describes the transfer and relink stuff in detail.

Believe it or not, that's where I started
There are 3 Blue Highlighted references to "Maintain Video Data", but they are not HTML links, just highlighted (confusing)
Searching for "Maintain Video Data" is not in same document
Searching for "Maintain Video Data" entire site, points back to VideoChapter.pdf (self referential)
Then I finally find it, just scrolling, but it's called "Maintaining Video Data"
You are making your documentation HARDER to use
At least keep references with the exact same string so searches will work
Hypertext links of any sort would be the best.

As a developer I'm sympathetic to the balance of features vs usability.
The reason I bought your app was to have an "all in one place" app for overlaying track data onto video.
I'd rather pay you another $25 to have the app work with the GoPro Hero3 instead of having to pay GoPro another $500 to buy a Hero4
