IMS Grand Prix circuit

Hi Harry,
My club will be hosting the first-ever Advanced DE at IMS Aug 21-23. I thought to prepare a POI set but find that the Apple (TomTom data?) maps are so old only the motorcycle road coarse was caught in the satellite images; not even a ghost of the later track developments. I do see a good clean image in Google Earth; the image in Google maps with the composite "path" overlay is distorting the real track (line?). Anyway, I can't figure out how to load a usable background into the POI editing - and frankly my skills at doing the composition & edit are terrible (I did one 5-point circuit around my neighborhood about a year aqo; took about 12 hours to do correctly).
Would you be willing to prepare a set for the GP course at IMS for download? I know other drivers will be using this as well. I'm attaching a copy of the REAL GP layout. The circuit to be used is marked in YELLOW. Note Indy helpfully indicates distance as well.
Thanks for all help.
-Jack

Hi Jack,
no problem I'll add the configuration.
But just to be sure - we are talking about Indianapolis Motor Speedway?
The GP Circuit shown by wiki is slightly different to the picture you posted
(https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianapo ... apolis.png) ?

To be sure, Indianapolis Motor Speedway. That track map with the deep 'U" at the north end is quite wrong - that is used for the Red Bull moto GP events, and was the original "road car course" envisioned. Since the past two years, the Indy GP course is the one I sent to you (check the race videos at Indycar to watch for yourself). BTW, the last updates from IMS state "2.439 miles" for the circuit distance; original plan was off by 26 feet :-))

Jack,
the IMS Indy GP track is now available for download.
Please check it out via 'add-ons', 'Update' list via the button at the right top,
search for the track e.g. via ‚Indiana' and download the track.

Hi!
Hopefully I've successfully emailed an updated data set to you. Many thanks for initiating this - much less daunting (to me) than creating from scratch, as well as ensuring I follow up on my end. Worst case, if my updates don't reach you intact, I've recorded all the coord changes and can send them
I made non-opaque transparencies of several satmap sets after scaling each to a common frame, and then aligned and used a light-board to check and mark revisions. As you certainly know, it's pretty hard to position POIs when there's only earth, no track! A transparent fine square grid layer helped a lot. A GIS system would probably have made short work of this - but then, I'd have to know how to use it. ;)
I noticed another POI right after I first downloaded the set you made (maybe it was present due to my loading the Tracks Overview?). It was a trigger and appears to be the POI for IMS for the Tracks Overview set. Its description indicated the rectangular oval track. It also almost overlapped the Split 1 you created (good idea!). If you change the longitude a bit east to W86(deg) 13.949' - moves it over the golf course fairway - and update the description to simply Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it will work politely with either POI set.
FYI: After staring so long at the various satmaps, it popped out at me that trigger "T2" of the IMS Rectangular Oval is backwards.
Best regards,
-Jack

Hi,
thanks for the update - Indianapolis GP is now in the database for download available,
please check it out via: 'add-ons', 'Update' list via the button at the right top,

The rectangular configuration is corrected too - many thanks for pointing out the wrong trigger direction.
